Was anyone else’s fall a blur? October was crazy. Everyone was in seasonal wardrobe changeover. The dreaded task of hauling out totes, laundering everything and finding that one, darn, missing glove. Of course, there was Halloween overload. Costume-making, and –buying. Candy eating, I mean, buying. Pumpkin scooping. I am exhausted just remembering it all. December we know is even crazier with, well, everything. November has just enough quiet in it to come down from October and rest up for December. And what better than to go out for a much-needed date night.

We took to the digital streets and asked you to help us determine the best date night ideas. So how’d we do this? Instagram! That’s how. Thank you for sharing your love for #VisitGuelph. We searched for all the public Instagram users who used the hashtags #Guelph, #datenight and #date that matched up from the beginning of September to mid-November, and surprisingly we found that a lot of you do the same thing… well, at least at this time of the year.

So let’s share what you’re all doing tonight while you hold hands. And instead of just giving you a summary of each of these businesses’ services, we thought it would be advantageous and encouraging to describe these fan-favourites with Google Reviews from your community, from others looking for date night ideas. I mean, why not take advice from your fellow visitors?

Guelph Little Theatre

Saw “The Drowsy Chaperone” and it was sooooo entertaining. Amazing talent. Not a bad seat in the place. Very much a small community feel. Will go again!

Sleeman Centre for a Storm Game

I’ve never had a bad time at the Sleeman Centre. It’s an intimate venue with not a bad seat in the house. Staff are always great and there’s a pub inside the arena to get dinner and drinks. Plus it’s attached to Quebec Street Shoppes and a parking garage in the middle of downtown Guelph so you’re close to so many restaurants and stores.

Queen’s Café

We went for breakfast and I wanted to stay for lunch AND dinner. The service was amazing, super friendly staff and amazingly quick. The chef even came out to greet us and ask us how the meal was and I don’t think I even got my cup to half before they came to refill, Amazing attention to detail and awareness A++ in my books. I will definitely return here. Especially for the ribs the chef went into detail on the cooking process 🙂

Baker Street Station

A favourite of mine and my husband’s. Love to go here for date night. Friendly staff, great food.

Miijidaa Café and Bistro

Warm, wonderful atmosphere with several different seating areas, each with a unique feel. I love that this place is attached to a bookshop — a great bookshop — which gives me something to do with a date after we have eaten and while we are deciding on the next part of the evening. There’s even a movie theatre and night club upstairs. Everything I’ve eaten here has been pretty tasty, and the coffee is excellent too.

Borealis Grille and Bar

We’ve been meaning to visit this restaurant ever since we moved to Guelph and finally got the chance for date night. This is a fabulous restaurant and it’s great that it’s all locally sourced ingredients. Everything tasted so fresh and wonderful. Service was excellent and our food came out quite fast (we went on a Wednesday night and they didn’t appear to be busy…not sure what it would be like on a Friday or Saturday night). They have deals each day of the week like most restaurants including a date night deal for less than $50 and the options were great; 1 app (the app we chose was quite large) to share, two entrees and two desserts per person instead of having to share one! We’ll definitely be back to try some of the other meals on the menu. Would 100% recommend.

Brothers Brewing Company

My gal and I enjoyed beers here during a late summer Sunday afternoon. We believe that this building is haunted by a friendly ghost who enjoys opening the cash register. Also, the jugs above the bar are antiques that were found in the wall during the renovation. Try the prosciutto flatbread. The Brothers themselves sat near us.

Earth To Table: Bread Bar

Great place to eat in Guelph! I’ve been there several times and the staff have always been a delight. The food selection, quality, and flavour is always amazing. No matter what you get- you can bet that it’ll be delicious. Call ahead for a reservation for dinner service- it’s a popular place 🙂
