Guelph’s love for nature and green spaces can be seen in Guelph’s East End. The East End is also home to the now defunct Ontario Reformatory (OR), a correctional facility that led the way when it came to rehabilitation through incarceration, placing great importance on skill building and education. The expansive site is considered a provincially significant heritage property. This neighbourhood is also developing an interesting culinary scene.

All Things Outdoors

The East End encourages you to get as much fresh air as possible. Hike along the Laura Bailey Memorial Trail or checkout the many activities available at Eastview Community Park. Sports fields, beach volleyball courts and an awesome interactive playground means the park is a great spot for the family. The area is also home to the East End’s Pollinator Park. The park has converted 112 acres of decommissioned landfill into one of Canada’s largest initiatives devoted to pollinators.

Retro Road-Stops

Drive-ins are having a comeback where you can enjoy the simple things in life from the comfort of your car. For some fifties flare, grab a hotdog at Rocky’s Drive-In, a staple summer afternoon experience for any Guelphite. Then, cruise over to Mustang Drive-In for an evening of good ol’ fashioned movies on the big screen.

For the retro aeronauts in your family, grab a meal at Guelph’s Airpark Café. Operated as a regional airport, the Guelph Airpark is home to a number of aviation companies and flying clubs like the Tiger Boys and Three Point Aviator, Gyro Ontario and numerous private aircrafts.

Treat Yourself

From the richest roasts to the sweetest treats, The East End delivers on savouring the senses. Planet Bean’s cafés can be found all around Guelph but its roastery finds its home in the East End. Try brunch at Eggcetera, Queen’s Café or Infamous Eatery. For a delectable evening of indulgence York Rd Kitchen & Chocolate Bar serves up a rich menu and atmosphere. Take home your own sweet treat from Bliss Dough, Ontario’s favourite edible cookie dough company.

The East End is one of many neighbourhoods to explore in Guelph. Enjoy outdoor activities safely, support #GuelphShops, and rediscover the heart of the Royal City as you #ExploreGuelph.
