Slam dunk of a day in the Royal City

Saturday, May 11 is shaping up to be a day you do not want to miss in Guelph. Whether you’re looking for some time out with the family, a meet up with some friends, or University of Guelph students celebrating the end of the semester, Guelph is bursting with activities this weekend.

Bloomin’ Backlot

Woman with fresh produce for Backlot Blooms

The Guelph Farmers’ Market is kicking off its outdoor season with Backlot Blooms from 7am-noon. It’s the perfect time to take home seedlings and plants from vendors and guests, like the Guelph Horticultural Society, or be inspired for your own green thumb with The City of Guelph’s Water Services and Healthy Landscapes. Indulge in fresh and locally-prepared food while you tap your toes to the folk and bluegrass music of Onion Honey. Take part in a slew of activities like creating beeswax wraps with Guelph Tool Library, or let the kids explore the beauty, art and science of spring, dirt and plants with Ignatius Farm, Children’s Art Factory and Let’s Talk Science Guelph. Don’t forget there’s also our regular and returning vendors and farmers with lots of delicious locally grown food to take home, as well!

Bounce onto the Guelph.Beer Bus

Launching in 2018, Guelph.Beer became an immediate hit in the community, creating a partnership between five local brewers to nurture Guelph’s growing beer culture. Wellington Brewery, Brothers Brewing Company, Royal City Brewing Co., Fixed Gear Brewing Co. and Sleeman Brewery make up this collaboration growing Guelph as a beer destination. Now, they are introducing the Guelph.Beer Bus, a monthly special Saturday service between May and August to help you make the most out of your beer tours. Running from 12 – 6pm, the Guelph.Beer Bus provides free transportation to each of Guelph’s brewers and is open to people of all-ages. The bus will also be making stops at Fat Duck Gastro Pub so you can chow down on a late lunch or early dinner with your favourite bevvy. Grab a group of friends, hop on to the Guelph.Beer Bus for its inaugural run, and experience the tastes and atmospheres of our local craft breweries.

Bring on some Basketball

So, you’ve had a bright morning at the market, sampled some bevvys in the afternoon, now it’s time to bring your A-game to Sleeman Centre for an evening of basketball with the Guelph Nighthawks! That’s right, Guelph is entering the professional basketball scene and the Nighthawks are taking flight this summer from May to August. As one of six founding teams to the Canadian Elite Basketball League, the Nighthawks will put on an incredible show on game nights that will excite avid basketball fans as well as be a memorable experience for those looking for a night of great entertainment. With DJs, Nighthawks cheerleaders, a dedicated Party Zone and Family Fun Zone, it’s the perfect send off to a packed day of Guelph sensations!
