The South End – Guelph’s Neighbourhoods

The South End is a booming neighbourhood with new housing developments, tasty restaurants, accommodation options, and another brewery! The South End also offers an opportunity to connect with nature, with trails, parks, green spaces, golf courses and more.

Enjoy the Great Outdoors

Preservation Park is popular spot for hikers to escape to nature within the city. With a weaving network of trails under a forested canopy, the area is a great spot to get outside and get active.

Continue just outside of the city to Starkey Hill Conservation Area and the four-kilometres of trail for hikers to explore. The conservation area offers a scenic trek through forested slopes, wetlands, and lookouts over Guelph and the surrounding area.

Maybe you’re looking for some relaxing outdoor activities? Hit the greens at Springfield Golf & Country Club or Victoria Park Valley Golf Club and try your hand at a hole in one.

Or look at the great outdoors through the eyes of an artist. At Garden House Gallery, the work of artist Mary-Dawn Roberts is on full display, with evocative landscapes inspired by everything from the gardens of Southern Ontario to the scenes of the Trent Severn waterway.

Unique Hidden Gems

For any history junkie or lover of vintage technology, the Hammond Museum of Radio is a visual treasure-trove. Featuring over one thousand operational receivers and transmitters from a multitude eras, a tour through this museum is truly like stepping through time.

The South End is also the home to Sleeman Breweries, the third largest brewery in Canada, who (rumour has it) supplied beer to Al Capone during prohibition. With five generations of brewing knowledge, extending back to 1834, the tradition and family values are on full display.

While you’re on the edge of the city, you’ll definitely want to make a stop at the Donkey Sanctuary of Canada. The Sanctuary has become the forever home for many donkeys from across the country and has been a delightful stop for many visitors to the area. Check for hours of operation before visiting.

Dining with an Atmosphere

The South End serves up a multitude of memorable dining experiences. At Manhattans Pizza Bistro and Music Club enjoy a New York-style thin crust pizza with the tunes of live music nearly every night of the week.

Creekside Kitchen’s warm atmosphere truly feels like the place where neighbourhoods come together. With carefully prepared meals that mix traditional methods with fresh techniques, this menu feels like home away from home.

For a full meal with a bar and grill feel, The Fat Duck Bistro Gastro Pub and Borealis Grille & Bar are two spots that will hit the spot for an evening of laughs, friends and great grub.

At Bar Mason there is always something exciting and fresh on the menu from talented chefs working with local ingredients. Stationed next to the Delta Hotel, this is a must-have spot for any visitor or Guelphite to enjoy.
